Clinical Trial Recruiting Volunteers for Study Investigating Botox as a Potential Treatment for Depression

Depression Self-Assessment Questionnaire

Welcome to the depression self-assessment questionnaire for Capital Clinical Research Associates (CCRA), a private clinical research center located in Rockville, MD. Our clinical research team is lead by Dr. Norman E. Rosenthal, CCRA's medical director and Dr. Joshua Rosenthal, CCRA’s principal investigator, who supervise research and participant study-related care in each of our studies.

CCRA is seeking volunteers for a double-blind, randomized clinical trial to investigate Botulinum Toxin A, commonly known as Botox, as a potential treatment for depression. This clinical trial is a follow up to Dr. Eric Finzi's pilot study that found nine out of ten clinically depressed patients who were treated with Botox Cosmetic to the glabellar (frown lines between the eyes) were no longer clinically depressed two months post treatment. The pilot study was published May 15, 2006 in the medical journal Dermatologic Surgery by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery. Click here to review the pilot study.

We are currently recruiting men and women from ages 18 to 65 who are experiencing symptoms of depression. Approximately 15% of the population will experience depression during their lifetime. Some of the typical symptoms experienced by people with depression include low mood, sadness, loss of interest in usual activities, feelings of hopelessness, feelings of guilt, worthlessness or helplessness, irritability or restlessness, loss of energy or fatigue, difficulty concentrating and forgetfulness, changes in sleep such as insomnia or sleeping too much, changes in appetite (loss of appetite or overeating) and thoughts of suicide. External symptoms often include facial muscles that create a distressed or sad appearance: furrowed brows, raised eyebrows, or anxious expressions. This clinical trial is being initiated to assess the potential role of Botulinum Toxin A in treating major depression.

Although you will need a full screening by our medical staff to qualify for the study, your answers to this questionnaire are important. Please take a moment to answer the following questions and tell us about yourself.
